As told by Eleni:
Edi and I met at my high school prom. He was my best friend’s cousin. My friend and I went to an all-girls high school and my friend brought her cousin Edi as a date. I didn’t even want to go to my high school prom, but I had too because I was the schools treasurer. We kept talking and dancing that evening, but I was not a fan of his smoking habit, plus he was my best friend’s cousin; I didn’t want a guy to come between our friendship. We were very much attracted by each other and not just physically. He was charming and so giving, and, as Edi says "I was the life of the party". Edi & I didn’t speak that summer since we were traveling abroad, but then we found out that we were both attending Fordham University in the fall. We were there on scholarships so we both focused a lot of our time on our studies and working. We began our first year of college as really good friends. Through the years that friendship grew stronger and stronger. We never had the same class because we each had different majors so while in school we rarely crossed paths.
We graduated Fordham and began working at our respective careers. We would see each other at events etc. and then Edi asked me to go see a Broadway play with him, and that’s when it all began. We wanted to spend every movement together. He was so loving, patient and charismatic. He thought I was beautiful, smart and had a heart of gold. We dated for 2 years before Edi proposed on a summer day in Long Beach, NY.
In the summer months Edi and I would normally take off a half a day from work and we would go to the beach since he worked on weekends. So on a sunny afternoon on Wednesday July 31st 2013, I thought it was another summer day we were taking a half a day off from work and heading to the beach, but it turns out it wasn’t just that.
Edi had packed a picnic lunch with wine like usual and we kept talking about the future, playing cards and beach volleyball, it was the perfect beach day, but little did I know that it was about to get even better. While the sun was setting down upon us, he asked me to take a walk. It was getting a bit chilly and I asked him that we should head home. He insisted we take a walk. Being the gentleman that he is, Edi drapes his sweater over my shoulders, takes by hand and we begin walking barefoot on the beach. As the waves crush over our toes, a rustic bottle appeared before us. The bottle was corked, so Edi ran to were our stuff was and brought over a bottle opener. He opened it and out came a scrolled letter, which I immediately took from his hands and began to read out loud. My love had written the most beautiful love note to me and at the end of it was asking me if I would…..marry him. Edi was on one knee with the sparkly rock on his hand, he asked me “would you marry me”, and without any hesitation I said YES, and jumped into his arms. There were so many tears of joy and an excitement that I had never experienced before. Hand in hand we walked/jumped back to our stuff and there Edi brings out a bottle of champagne and we toasted to our eternal love and a new beginning together. We were so excited we wanted to share the amazing news with everyone and Edi had taken care of that too. When we arrived at my house Edi had organized for all of family members to be there. Everyone was beyond happy for us. Additionally, Edi had hired a photographer to capture his proposal. I had no idea until we saw the pictures that evening. Neither of us slept that night. We were so thrilled and excited that we would be spending the rest of our lives together as husband and wife.
