Students in IIT's IPRO program built a mobile operating room designed to be used in areas that have just experienced a natural disaster. The operating room was designed to be portable, modular, cost-effective, energy-efficient, easily incorporated into a sterile environment and deployed quickly to treat injured victims in need of surgery.

This video was made by students at IIT Mumbai who collaborated with their colleagues at the Institute of Design to develop business tools and systems for the BoP. The clip showcases an ice cream vendor, Shankar, who sells ice cream in a slum area of Powai. Of particular interest is how Shankar accepts recyclables in lieu of money - a BoP business practice which inspired the design of a self-sustaining recycling system in the slum.
