Inspired by Friedrich Nietzsche’s concept of Eternal Recurrence and Arseny Tarkovsky’s poem, Eurydice, Burning As It Runs expresses the dissonance between our understanding of linear time and the complex webs of personal experience. This work involves a duet performance, live sculpture, and the projection of a digital/16mm film shot in the nothingness of the White Sands Desert. The presence of the physical body in the right now dances in tension with the nostalgia, imagination, and dream of the film, expressing a longing to understand one’s dynamic relationship with the void. Burning As It Runs will make its work in progress premiere as a dance and video multimedia work as part of Leimay’s SOAK Festival, where Lucy is currently working as a Fellow. This project has been made possible because of the funds Lucy received upon winning the grand prize of the 2014 George H. Mitchell Awards for Academic Excellence at The University of Texas at Austin.
A story about the hilarious and awkward misadventures of a 6’4’’ tall woman who is a star on the basketball court but struggles to find true love. This animated “tall short” about embracing difference is certain to disarm and delight.

This action-packed CGI short was created by Matt Nava, the art director behind acclaimed video games Journey and Flower. I used samples of Indonesian gamelan and female vocals to set a dangerous and exotic mood.
