This Documentary follows the process of Duthain Dealbhs sand sculpture project in Dublin castles courtyard in 2006. It takes us from over 100 tonnes of raw sand to sculptures of complexity and beauty based on the theme of the five Senses
I was approached by the Make a Wish Foundation to create a piece for a Campaign launch they were having. I decided to create a childs wish to be an astronaut. This is the 40th Anniversary of the moon landing so I thought it would be apt. The hole in the head of the sculpture was to give the possibility of people posing with their head stuck through the hole. It took around 7 hours to create.
This is a timelapse making of a sculpture I did in Dublin castle as part of the 'Compass' exhibition with Duthain Dealbh. I have upload this video in a beta version but will get around to doing a better edited, colour corrected one later.
Title: Poles Apart
Description: Taking my inspiration from the fact that there are two North Poles. I chose to show them as separate entities. True North as a simple form where all lines of longitude originate and Magnetic North with its fields radiating from its living core. As the earth rotates around its axis, Magnetic North with a life of its own changes continually as it dances around the world
