  1. The ATM was built (actual scale) and destroyed using materials and procedures from the popular-folkloric tradition of the Toritos (Tultepec, Estado de Mexico). The ephemeral replica made of reed and cardboard was used to build a fiction based in actual events (ATM explosions) that the media usually describes indistinctively as anarchist, terrorist or organized crime. The project this video is part of examines recent catastrophic events in Mexico’s history through reenactment, combining the materials, aesthetics and meanings of folkloric traditions with state-of-the-art cinematic paraphernalia. Starting from images culled from the media, full-scale models were constructed with reed, newspaper and cardboard and destroyed with pyrotechnics, resorting on allegory and black humor to explore metaphoric ways of dealing with reality such as mass media, folklore and cinema.

  2. Staging of the bombing of a Ford Lobo, the preferred pick-up of the Mexican Narcos. The pick-up was built and destroyed using materials and procedures from the popular-folkloric tradition of the Toritos (Tultepec, Estado de Mexico). Deceive is a strategy for astonishment: what is perceived as an actual vehicle is an ephemeral replica made of reed. Through fiction and cinematic representation (special effects included) terrorist strategies recently adopted in Mexico are exhibited. Tradition and folklore fuses with the current state of events, just like it happens in a country besieged by a mafia whose actions are being endorsed by the government.

  3. 'The Information' is an experimental documentary composed entirely of found youtube footage of Wal-Mart Parking lots in North Dakata shot by or about migrant workers in North Dakota. These young men tell stories and give advice from a perspective rooted in a culture founded on situations which echo those of the Grapes of Wrath and the myths of the American west.

This story echos sentiments and themes from my other works, We Are Going to be Poor Forever, and A Natural History of the Subjects of Late Capitalism. All of which stem from my own experience. The story of these workers mirrors some of my own experiences living in a 72 dodge, as well as the feelings of uncertainty that most of us feel as we examine our options.

  4. fauxlographic is a performative installation that takes place within an ethno-dysphoric cloning lab, where diasporic anxiety is analyzed through the process of fauxlographic cloning. The clones enact sonic rituals, singing in Farsi, English and Perz-ish [a faux diasporic language], based on multiple sources of information including embodied memories, wikileaks cables, and textual/ visual/ aural references concerning Iran and the Persia. The ethno-dysphoric scientist analyzes her dislocated subjectivity by performing a daily neurotic ritual within a glass computing chamber while wearing an EEG neuro-headset. As she neurojaculates with the clones in order to (pars)e the (fars)e their data streams, the diasporic computing sounds of the eeg oscillate in pitch based on her neural activity. When high levels of CO2 are detected by the lab’s sensors, the clones become aware of those gazing upon them, resulting in an anxious act of erasure and multiplication of their pixellated flesh, reciprocating the affective presence of the other bodies. The use organic sensors transforms the lab into a cyborgian spatial interface, allowing for unconscious collaboration between multiple bodies in space, confusing the
    somatic architecture of the performance.
