On the day of Gratitude, I was given the honor of playing a halo drum. Though I have only touched a few of these magical portal instruments in my lifetime, I know this is my instrument. Pan Drums let my soul truly sing, bridging years of playing percussion, military rudiments from drumline, orchestral marimba and vibraphone, all the way to tribal style hand drums. The healing power of vibration with the entrancing and ecstatic flow state one enters upon playing. Gratitude to the magical beings who helped get this instrument into my hands, even if only for 24 hours.
In my last few hours before returning the instrument, I set up my tea meditation for the morning and began to play. When my hands touched this instrument, I instantly find myself enraptured in a column of rainbow light. My eyes closed I could see an iridescent mandala shimmering in my vision, the portal opening for me to fully step through. I felt the quickening ray of ascension shimmering up my curved spine, curling me like the fibonacci spiral deeper into myself, leaning deeper into the column of light emanating around the portal drum. Like a magical puzzle box, each note is its own seed syllable of creation. By discovering the patterns hidden in between these nodes, a song emerges, the gift hidden in the treasure chest. The pattern informed my hands, moving me in ways I would never expect, and yet the perfect flows continue to emanate from the impeccable instrument. What a brilliant teacher, to have such a forgiving instrument allows anyone to play and enter into this trance state of pure tone. And yet in its very nature, calling me to higher levels of precision and composition.
In those last few hours I was able to record several tracks for my own tea ceremony, and then rush over and record a whole song with Elijah Ray and Theo before returning the drum to its rightful stewart. We will be releasing this beautiful track in the coming weeks, a prayer for the spherical consciousness awakening in all of us. For now, I hope you enjoy this improvised piece "Initiation". Continue to hold me in your vision as receiving a Halo or Hang drum for our temple here at OneDoorLand.
