There’s so much in this clip. The dancer is of course, the incredible Nabaweya Mustafa in a scene from the 1948 Egyptian film ‘The Peasant’s Son’ (Ibn al Fallah ابن الفلاح). The film starred Ismail Yassine, Mary Munib and Mohamed Kamal el Masry. In this clip the first singer is Mohamed el Kahlawy and the second is Ismail Yassine who accompanies an old-school folkloric style dancer. This dancer, who is uncredited, does a down-up pelvic drop (or whatever you call it wherever you happen to be) but you’ll know it when you see it! There’s lots of tahtib in this scene too.
Nabaweya Mustafa is the dancer in this scene from the 1954 Egyptian film ‘Khalak ma Allah’ ('Stay with God' or 'Trust in God' خليك مع الله). The film told the story of a rich family which is shocked to learn that the man they've always regarded as merely a foster brother is actually the legitimate son of their rich patriarch and will therefore inherit everything. Initially, the family rejects him but they soon start pursuing him to get his inheritance.
The film starred Mohamed el Kahlawy (محمد الكحلاوي) who is the singer in this clip. The film also starred comedian Ismail Yassin along with Nadia Riad, Mahmoud al Meliji, Zomoroda, Zeinat Sedki and Abdel Wares Asar.
Trivia: Nadia Riad doesn’t seem to have been in any other films save this one.
Nabaweya Mustafa is the dancer in this scene from the 1947 Egyptian film ‘Ana albi dalili’ (My Heart is My Guide قلبي دليلي). The film starred Anwar Wajdi, the man in the overalls and Leila Mourad who’s the girl locked in the basement with the villain of the film, Stefan Rosti. The singer is Mohamed Abdel Aziz (عبدالعزيز محمود).
Trivia 1: In the film there’s a scene set at a masked ball where three masked thieves (who are disguised as three masked thieves) mix with the guests. The thieves are played by well known Egyptian screen actors Abdelmonem Ismail and Abdel Hamid Zaki along with a very young Farid Shawki.
Trivia 2: The toothless guy is a member of the gang of kidnappers and is played by Riad al Kosabgy (رياض القصبجي).
The dancer in this clip is Egyptian born dancer Nabaweya Mustafa (نبوية مصطفى). Her performance in this scene includes the splits, some floorwork as well as her usual dynamic hipwork. The scene is from a 1948 Egyptian movie titled ‘Nargis’ (نرجس Nargis is a girl’s name meaning in English 'Narcissus' which is a flower) starring Nour al Hoda, Mohamed Fawzy, Fardous Mohamed, Ali al Kassar and Ismail Yassin.
