The film starred Farid al Atrache as a man who fancies his neighbour’s niece Elham played by Madiha Yousri. He gets to know Elham by teaching her to play the piano. Elham’s aunt is played by Marie Munib and the film also starred Hassan Fayek and Abbas Fares. Taheya Karioka plays Bahia who is a dancer who tries – but fails - to make Farid fall in love with her.

  2. This is Egyptian dancer Taheya Karioka performing in a scene from the 1953 Egyptian film “Hamido” (حميدو). The film starred Farid Shawki and Huda Sultan playing Hamido and Sayeda who are involved in a drug smuggling operation. Also starring was Mahmoud al Meligi who enters part way through the scene. He plays El Qersh (the baddie) and the part famously calls for a hook for a hand, you'll see him drinking tea/beer (!) in this scene using the hook. The singer in this scene is Saed Darwish al Tantari (سيد درويش الطنطاوى) not to be confused with Saed Darwish the composer.

The film also starred Egyptian comedian Ismail Yassin who's the man who starts the dancing and then brings her into the middle of the circle. Also starring were Mohammed al Bakkar and Fardos Mohamed. Taheya Karioka plays Nadia, a local politician's daughter who was lost in the forest many years previously. Nadia's origins have been forgotten and she's now known to everyone as Naduga (also spelt 'Nadoga'). She's protected by an 8 feet tall monkey and if there's an Oscar for 'Worst Monkey Suit Ever' this one would win it.

  4. Taheya Karioka dances in a scene from the 1959 Egyptian drama ‘Hob Hatta Alibeda’ ( حب حتى العبادة). The film’s title is often translated as ‘Sublime Amour’ which, even for 1959, is rather archaic language…..'Sublime Amour' sounds like the name of a cheap perfume doesn’t it? The film centres around union activity in a factory but there’s a love story too. Taheya Karioka starred along with Salah Zulfikar, Zizi al Badrawi, Riad Hussain, Omar Hariri and Zuzu Nabil.
