This is Soheir Zaki performing in a wedding scene from the 1964 Egyptian comedy “Hekayet Gawaz“ (The Story of a Wedding حكاية جواز ). The movie starred Suad Hosni and Shokry Sarhan as Adila and Mohamed, the bride and groom in this scene. Also starring were Mary Munib, Hussein Fayek and Amina Rizk.
This clip may be old, grainy and blurry due to multiple recopying, but do we care a bit? No we don’t, because it’s Soheir! The singer with her is a very young Katkoot al Amir (1945-2012) (كتكوت الأمير). Apparently Katkoot al Amir (The Chick Prince) was originally a drummer and was given his stage name by Om Kulthum. He acted and sang in many Egyptian movies between 1978 and the early 1990s.
Many thanks to Jalilah for the correction of the name of the singer.
Soheir Zaki dances to her theme music ‘Pink Lady’ in a scene from the 1983 drama ‘Enna Rabbaka Labelmersad ‘ (The Lord of the Lookout إن ربك لبالمرصاد). The film starred Hussein Fahmy, Mahmoud Yassine and Yousra and told the story of a chemist who finds that ingredients for medicines are going missing from the lab where he works. He discovers that one of his co-workers is supplying them to a drug gang. Soheir Zaki plays an addicted dancer.
There are some bellydance performances that can only be described as 'iconic' and this is one of them. This is Soheir Zaki wearing a blue galabaya in a performance on three raised circular platforms. This clip is available on a number of other websites but I'm including it as no collection of classic Egyptian dance clips could be considered complete without it.
Soheir Zaki dances in a scene from the 1964 Egyptian film 'Matloub Zawja Fawran' ('Wife Required Immediately' or 'An Immediate Wedding' مطلوب زوجة فورا ) which starred Farid Shawki, Laila Taher, Mohamed Reda (the actor not Mahmoud Reda the dancer) and Mahmoud el Meliji.
