Experimental visuals, set to music, to tell the story of young love.
I wanted to make something simple, sexy and stylish. Paul, who shot the film, had the original concept but was happy for me to develop it and this is the result. It was a small, intimate set and we tried to create some interesting shots, all lit with soft backlights. It was a challenge to find ways to project the words with movement and different reveals. I'm really pleased with the end result.
Shot using the SGpro 35mm lens adapter on a Sony Z1. Graded with Magic Bullet Looks. We filmed in a black studio, which was almost completely blacked out (it is possible to see a patch of background light in one shot). It was a nice change to have such control over the light and not having our lighting set up dictated by any natural light sources.
The music came about after we had finished filming, suggested by Rich (who stars in the film). It fitted perfectly and, I think, adds another dimension the story.
I also recut a version of 'Making Love' to a track by Moby as part of an online competition. It was about a minute shorter and slightly faster paced. That cut has since been destroyed to make room for the original, and best, version!
