The site that this building stands on and where we are now gathered was home to a theatre, now long gone. The theatre was well known for its performances of dance. Archive footage of interviews with the some of the dancers has recently been found.
This short film is a new experimental piece, editing, annotating and interacting with the US Government’s footage of Nuclear tests, Able and Baker, from 1946. Having spent hours trawling through declassified information films about nuclear tests I was trying to grab and plot my own way through them. Not wanting to downplay the serious nature of the subject, I intend instead to highlight the absurdity of parts of the commentary and claims made by the military, as well as showing some of the more creative parts of their visual record keeping. Hence this film was borne.
