In this Ebook, I will be concentrating on the Steady Head position or Letter Lesson H. Mr. Hogan starts his letter by saying that, “The basis of a good sound swing is correct leg work and body position. The center of gravity of the body must stay in one place throughout the swing. This is, if a line is drawn through the nose or head to the ground, the head must stay in that position throughout the swing”.
With that said, I believe Mr. Hogan mean that the Steady Head is a crucial part of the body position and that it has to be placed in a specific place. I will be covering the personal lesson that Mr. Hogan gave to Al Barkow in the back of Shady Oaks golf course that will clarify this important lesson.

Mr. Hogans used to swing crosshanded. You can see the position that he places Glenn Ford's left arm and shoulder. It is in a crosshanded position.

You can really see Mr. Hogan taking the butt end of the club straight back, but to the inside.
His tip of his left shoulder is right over his left knee. He did not stack and tilt. He was very much centered over the ball.
He moved his weight to the heel of his right foot. If you move your head to the right or to the left it will make it very difficult for you to get back to the ball the same way.

Watch Mr. Hogan and his steady head. He moves it horizontally to the right and has the left shoulder work its way around the cigarette holder that is positioned on the left side of his mouth.
The tip of his left shoulder is over his knee and the top of the backswing. Watch his marvelous inside figure 8 shape golf swing.

Look how the left knee moves towards the right knee. His left shoulder drops an inch. His belly button or belt buckle moves to the right. He is centered over the ball and his weight is into his right heel.
