  2. Presentation outcomes of the Technopolis Study on Project Management

    Dr. Derek Jan Fikkers is a senior consultant with Technopolis in Amsterdam. Derek Jan has been working in the field of higher education policies, science & technology policies since 2004. Clients include companies in the private sector and public organisations such as the HEIs, OECD, the European Commission, national governments and regions in several countries. Before joining Technopolis, Derek Jan worked for PwC Consultancy, where he coordinated the Dutch Strategy and Policy Group. Derek Jan has a particular track record on the field of higher education policies and science. On these topics Derek Jan has successfully finished a large number of consultancy projects and publisehd several articles and book chapters. Recent projects include advise to the European Commission on the future of NMP skills and the ways European HEIs should respond; advise to the Dutch government on the best ways to respond to future shortages in the human capital labour markets; optimalisation of framework conditions for research management performance of FP Projects; the design of a roadmap for market-focused conditions for research management performance of FP projects; the design of a roadmap for market-focused research centres in Ireland; the improvement of international S&T cooperation for the European Commission.

  3. Presentation outcomes of the ERA - Working Group Survey: The Second Round

    Dr. Anne Katrin Werenskiold is the Head of the "EU-Office" at the Max Planck Institute (MPI) of Biochemistry, a leading basic research institute in Martinsried, Germany. She established this grants office with the onset of the European Research Framework Programme 6 as a full-service facility at the MPI for the acquisition and management of EU-projects. Services include all aspects of research projects from proposal writing through coordination, management and public relations of large projects, extending to advisory roles / trouble-shooting in all aspects of project management. This project management activity is based on an academic research career of 20 years [Diploma Biology, PhD in Chemistry] with more than 10 years as leader of an independent research group in Cancer Research and complementary expertise as scientific writer and self-employed research management consultant. She is a longstanding member and former Chair of EARMA's ERA-Working Group, and a current member of the EARMA Board.

  4. Presentation: The European Commissions view on the first start with the H2020 program. What goes as expected? Where are hiccups, where can best practices be found?

    Alan Cross joined the European Commission in 1991, having previously worked for the UK’s Natural Environment Research Council, and the United Nations Environment Programme. Originally working in space policy, he then became involved in successive Framework programmes, first in the areas of Earth observation and climate change, and later in science and society. Since 2006 he has worked on the coordination of EU programmes, including proposal evaluation, inter-institutional relations, National Contact Points, and work programme development. He is currently deputy Head of Unit in DG Research and Innovation, and was closely involved in the preparation and launch of Horizon 2020.
