Back in March 2015, Repower Balcombe raised £49,000 when locals invested in community-owned solar panels. In August, the panels were installed on two local primary schools! It made such a splash it was reported on the local 6pm news on 19th August!
From mines to turbines: How coal country can spark a clean energy revolution.
Sign the petition calling on the UK Government to make local energy supply possible:
Former MP and community energy champion Alan Simpson visits the Four Winds energy co-operative's community owned wind turbine during construction, and makes the case that local people should be able to benefit first from living alongside renewable energy developments, via a 'right to buy' the power generated - as already happens in Denmark and Germany. The turbine is located on a disused coal mine outside the former mining village of Duckmanton; a perfect microcosm of the UK's national journey away from coal power and towards clean, renewable energy.

Note: That's obviously just a bit of artistic license at the end - wind turbines can't really change direction like that!
