  5. There is no one formula for breaking into journalism, but there are a lot of different things that you can do to get your foot in the door. Follow a bunch of different editors on twitter; write for a variety of different outlets; get editors to learn your name so that you're not just an anonymous person sending pitches or applying to positions. Participate as much as possible in programs, panels, and communities that are around your beat and build the momentum towards jumpstarting your career.
