In october, i was blessed enough to go to Portugal for the second time with mi lady.
As always occurs, you usually take half of the staff you never need, therefore i filled my bacpacks to 110%, including filming gear. I swore myself to take one or two shots with my filming device just to have some memories stored for my grandchildren, when time is ready ;) Maybe i will be lucky enough to even edit a short promotional video about Portugal.
As i've already mentioned above, it was my second time in Portugal, and thus we've seen almost all turist attractions out there. We just wanted to have real chillaxing holidays without any commitment whatsoever, and finally we decided to have real surf vacations up in Peniche. And again it happened, even though you know what to expect. We were once again impressed beyond words. Portugal is true natural pearl. With it's breathtaking landscape and coastline, friendly and easy-going people, you could easily fall for that "trap" and get used to it. They sure do know how to trully enjoy every moment out there. Especially in Peniche, they live for that exact moment, when riding a wave is like the “Perfect Storm”. A simultaneous occurrence of events that provide an opportunity to become “One with Nature”. And they don't care about anything else.
In Portugal, they don't care about time. It's simply not their thing. You could wait a cup of coffee or beer for half an hour and it's still pretty normal. And although you would normally be annoyed as hell, you simply can't be angry with them. Because it's how they do. After a while you started to appreciate this "money isn't everything" kind of living.
Surfing and listening to sounds of the ocean is something i could do everyday, allday. When you just don't give a damn about anything else beside riding a wave :) I probably don't have to mention cruising around Lisbon streets and Faro ambience sounds in the background. Those are the small things that matter and usually happen when you are dislocated from your comfort zone.
I could write a lot more about Portugal and my thougths a lot more, but better let the promotional video speaks. I hope you find it amusing, because it's the closest to those real Portugal memories i can get you.
With this video, i am starting "Discovering the paradise" series, where i'll try to capture every travel jurney i go on in short promotional videos. Next one is dropping in september.

Michel Bourez's 10 point wave at Supertubos during the Rip Curl Pro Portugal is in the run for the ASP Mens World Tour Wave of the Year. We thought that the angle of that wave on the video of ASP World Surfing Awards wasn't enough to show how impressive the wave was so here's our angle of that particular wave. Enjoy and go to aspworldsurfingawards.com to vote!
