Analog Devices (ADI) has long been present in Southeast Asia, and maintains an office in Hong Kong.
I had the distinct pleasure to work with Steven Weatherbee of Regis Media to write, remotely direct and edit this video for ADI. I say remotely direct, because neither the time, nor budget allowed either of us to travel to Hong Kong for the shoot.
Instead, Steve retained Cruise Control to get us a crew and line producer, while I wrote a script and shot list for the story. Steve listened to the interview over the phone and, based on the details of the interview, I developed a shot list for b-roll, e-mailing it to the producer as the cameraman packed up from the interview. Tapes of the b-roll and interview were Federal Expressed to us, and I completed the project on our Avid.
Peter Oaklander, the Managing Director for Asia Pacific, certainly projected the future for both the economy and the direction of technology.
Ray Stata, Chairman and Founder of Analog Devices, Inc. is one of the most enlightened corporate leaders I have ever met. Here, in an excerpt from an interview in 2007, he discusses the attributes of leadership - the secret of his successful company. Working under the leadership of producer Steve Weatherbee, my role included working with the host to develop a concise series of questions, and ended with managing the edit with Steve.
In light of the Wall Street shenanigans in 2006 - 2007,, Mr.Stata's beliefs are a welcome viewpoint from a corporate giant.
A few years back, Steve Weatherbee and I were retained by the Micromachine Division of a engineering firm to shoot an overview of an amazing new technology that enabled you to build micro-sized optical switches for fiber-optic circuits. It was a very technical story, and our job was produce a short and easy-to-understand overview of this remarkable achievement.
We shot for one day at the company's Cambridge facility in Massachusetts, and a half a day in California at a partner's facility. Envisioning the need for animated graphics to illustrate process, we shot the interviews against a green screen background and added the animations in post. This is the first :49 seconds of a two-minute piece.
David Masher of Inversion Media, asked if I would travel the country to interview over 50 individuals in electrical distribution companies that were recently folded into Sonepar, a French international company.
My job was to manage the acquisition of the interviews, arrange for crews in cities nationwide, direct the production, and interview the employees. This all had to be completed in two week's time.
David Masher, Creative Director and Founder of Inversion Media, packaged them all up in an amazing swirl of Motion Graphics, Sound Design and Scoring. David was responsible for creating the motion graphics and sound design. He also scored the music.
This video was shown on day one of the Sonepar USA national Sales Meeting produced by Centrifuge Media of North Carolina, a remarkable event company.
