2015 College Sports Media Awards Entry by EMC Productions which was broadcasted regionally on MyTV30 (WUXP) in Nashville, TN. The broadcast was done by EMC Students at Middle Tennessee State University.
EMC Productions is a team of high-performing EMC students working together as a quasi-professional production company to produce live television broadcasts of MTSU sports and other live events. Think of it as our varsity team for live event television. Just like the varsity football team, students compete for positions on the team, they practice hard, they can lose their positions on the team if they don’t perform, and they receive no course credit for their participation. But they do get real-world experience producing live television events, and great material for their portfolios and résumés.
At a time when the traditional television viewing audience is diminishing due to competition from other screens, live event televisions such as sports, concerts, and awards shows continue to draw some of the largest audiences in television history. We believe that live event television is here to stay, and EMC Productions is one way that we are helping students prepare for long-term, productive careers doing work they love.
EMC Productions is managed by EMC faculty member, Dr. Dennis Oneal. Dr. Oneal coaches the team, negotiates contracts for future events, and contracts with the MTSU athletic department as they work with distribution partners including ESPN and Comcast Sports South. Highlights to date include a series of MTSU football and basketball games broadcast on ESPN3, coverage of the Ronald McDonald Telethon for WKRN-TV, and a broadcast of MTSU Athletics Department’s annual awards show.
