The mission of the Horizons-Upward Bound (HUB) program at Cranbrook Educational Community is to prepare students with limited opportunities from the Detroit Metropolitan area to enter and succeed in post-secondary education.
This is a momentous occasion, a tremendous opportunity for HUB alumni, teachers and supporters to relive, re-visit and re-engage many memories, friends and places. Over 2,800 students have benefited from Horizons-Upward Bound’s 50 years of creativity, persistence and dedication, our attention now must turn to making the next fifty years better. Many pioneers in Education forged the future of providing opportunity for the underserved. We shall always be indebted to Mr. Ben Snyder and Mr. Robert Sandoe who are credited with the formation of the initial Horizons Program.
As we begin our 50th Anniversary, I beg you to remember the journey and people that started us on our pathway to success. Please remember their sacrifices, dedication, advice, and why they chose to guide us on our personal journey.
The next challenge for us is to become better than we have been, more dedicated, greater in allegiance and more committed to securing the financial stability of HUB. WE must forge new partnerships, create stronger alliances, and accept our obligation to support the program that made a difference in all of our lives. I invite all of you to participate in the yearlong celebratory events and please bring new friends and organizations to learn about the HUB experience.
Through the years, Wallace Arena has become synonymous with CK Hockey. To ensure the facility is outfitted with the space and resources befitting a program of its caliber, a major renovation has been proposed to address critical needs that have developed over the past twenty years. Plans include: new locker rooms for the girls and boys varsity and junior varsity teams; an exercise room, dedicated to hockey; new coaching offices; and an alumni room, which can serve as a study hall as well as a gathering place for past and present players.
