Every 18th of December, Qatar celebrates its unification and independence. This is known as Qatar National Day.
The holiday was established by a June 21, 2007 decree of the Emir and Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani. This short time-lapse film is my way of showing the beauty of Qatar, from the deserts and Qatar's capital, Doha. I wish all of my friends and colleagues here in Doha a very happy Qatar National Day!
I have lived in Qatar since January 2014 and have been lucky enough to enjoy both the silence of the desert and the growing metropolis that is Qatar's capital, Doha.
This time-lapse film starts in the desert near Zekreet and shows the huge, awe-inspiring works of sculptor Richard Serra. His work can also be found in the gardens of the Museum of Islamic Art, also featured in the time-lapse film. The Museum of Islamic art, sometimes referred to at the 'MIA' was designed by Chinese/American architect I. M. Pei. It has always fascinated me, ever since I first visited Qatar several years ago.
This time-lapse film is not video, it is pure still photographs. Approximately 4,500 still photographs taken using one single DSLR.
Thank you for watching.
