I made this piece while I was mourning the loss of my lovely dad who loved the sea.
This version came about through a workshop with Sandra Reeve on Charmouth Beach following some work with collaborator Ian Cameron. I had worked with Sandra 2011 and this formed the impetus for the work on Little Blue Man which I developed with Ian and then reformed with Sandra and the project group she brought together in 2014/15. So this project has a long development with various outcomes and this is one.
After the floods in Cumbria there was a lot of work to do to repair and prepare the mill for opening in the Spring. You will see father, son and grandson here working at the mill working on this process. Calling Up Constance Part One, a short film by Carran Waterfield, is the second in a trilogy of short films based on an interview with historian Roger Bingham in March 2016.
