A new tutorial about creating a cool looking stone called 'Black Pyrite". We will learn how to create a nice abstract shape with copy stamping expressions, vdb meshing and customs displacement attribute for rendering in Mantra. This tutorial is based on some work I recently did at double negative for a film. A huge environment needed to be fenced with shots ranging from close up to wide angle. The ground would be sculpted and updated on a daily basis by the modelling department. Instances made total sense as they would provide the ability to use very detailed models of the barb wires and posts that would be suitable for close-up shots, without creating a huge memory overhead. The main challenge was to turn this task into a procedural modelling task allowing for the terrain and models to be updated, while staying efficient and fast.
