This season I am most grateful for having survived what I had put me through. It is finally becoming clear, of how it will all come together with the formula of a James Bond movie, the opening like Charlie Chaplin, and possibly 30 characters to tell the tale, it is "A Hero's Journey" of the Joseph Campbell variety, if I must say so myself.
When I was putting the Tipi Blessing Party together, I found Bobby Goldsboro's "Hobos & Kings". It tells the chapter of my life when I hitch-hiked around this country for 14 years, without a dollar in my pocket.
Now that the vision is clear, I need a rehearsal space to put it all together. I'm putting it out to you, that you may put it out to the universe, that I may get to share this with you all, before we graduate earth school.
The International Brotherhood of Magicians held a Stage Magic Competition. In 2004 I entered for the first time with this piece. I was 2 votes from 1st place! There were several ol'-timers that came up to me and told me that Doug Henning was the last one to present the sands in any fashion, but that I had done it better than him! I felt very honored!
In 2006, I made history with The Sands of Sabretooth when the Santa Cruz Indian Council convened and decided to break tradition. They allowed it to be performed in the pow-wow arena because of it's healing message. Magic has NEVER been allowed in the arena!
In 2008 I added a little more polish and took home the Silver Medal for Stage Magic from the Pacific Coast Association of Magicians. (This is not the kind of effect that usually wins a magic competition)
Boy did the magicians start calling to talk about the sands then! Relax guys! The teaching video will be released soon.
This video explains the different totems followed on my journey into the darkness and back to the light. It also tells how I was given the name "Sabretooth". It is part of an empowerment program I offer. The students actually get to spend the night in the tipi, cook on the fire, learn some culture and get answers to their questions. For many it creates a lifetime memory. This program has received great reviews!
I had only painted one painting in my entire life, I was 14 and I stretched it out over the entire school year.
One day I looked out at the tipi and I thought, "I should paint that!" It launched a 5 month project. It was as though the Creator took over the brush and I watched it being painted. Seven eagle feathers came to me when it was finished. I wondered how long I must walk the Red Road before I earn my eagle feather!
Many of the creatures manifested around the work site as I painted them, including a bat and a tarantula. I didn't even know there were tarantulas in California! (I thought I painted a brown recluse!) A pair of owls watched over me nightly. A squirrel began to share my lunch with me almost daily, just like the squirrels that ate from my grandfather's hand!
I have been commissioned to do private works as well and still accept them on a space-available basis. It was a very healing experience and I felt very close to my grandfather.
It is said that when we cease feeling enmity toward any living thing, that no living thing will fear us!
