Thank you Michael Hattori for forwarding this kumihimo pattern to me. This 32-strand pattern creates the closest approximation to a "kikko" tortoise-shell braid that I have ever seen for the marudai braiding stand. The kikko braids that use more threads and are made on the takadai braiding stand are more detailed, of course, and have clearer hexagons. I don't have a takadai yet, so marudai it is.
Tightening the stitches on move #1 and move #5 are vitally important for maintaining tension in this braid!
