The "Round 2" - March For The Homeless started at 2pm at the Garden of Remembrance on the 11/7/15. We intended on marching to Leinster House however we decided to turn at O'Connell Bridge and go back down O'Connell Street towards The Bolt Hostel, at 38/39 Bolton St., The Irish Housing Network have reclaimed the 3 year vacant building to house the homeless so we went by to show our support.
March For The Homeless had a busy first night of the week serving Darren's chicken curry for a change to at least 100 homeless people. We spoke with lots of people some homeless and some not. There were a lot of very kind tourists about one American man literally gave his jacket off his back to us to give to the homeless. Tonight we were joined by our Food Manager Jennie & her daughter Titch who will also be joining the team helping her mam with the food & Gráinne with the clothes. Sarah-Jane was also with us helping us hand out our flyers for our march next week.
Thanks to all the donations we received this week we were able to provide two rails of mens clothes on our new double rail including t-shirts, shorts, jumpers, hoodies, jeans, tracksuit bottoms. underwear and jackets which was refilled after an hour and a half and completely empty by half 11. The only thing we couldn't give was runners or any mens shoes except for a pair of boots that went the minute they were placed on the table. If you have any shoes or mens clothes please donate them to us.
We had a full variety of women's clothes the only thing we didn't have was underwear but we hope to have some by Saturday.
All in all a very good night. Nice to see our regulars and have a chat. The respect they have for us really warms our hearts as we love doing what we do. We have also decided to do Thursday this week serving spaghetti bolognese as per their request. We will also have our new banner so if your passing by say hi :)
