    Where is my blog??? :)

Well, it's all coming soon... the brand and the blog, lots of fresh clips too.

Last five months have been very busy for me. Coming up with the brand, lots of travel across three continents, meeting great couples, sharing with the industry...

I've been blessed with a huge help and amazing response from all my friends within the industry and beyond. Thanks to them, I'm already at capacity for 2010, and filling up the schedule for 2011 season.

I am also very fortunate with my awesome couples. They all inspire me and give me a huge creativity boost with their excitement!

One of those couples is Kelly and Sasha.
I've known Kelly for few years now and I must say that I'm extremely honored that I was able to shoot her beautiful wedding.
It took place on one of the hottest days of this summer, July 23rd.
It was quite an experience to watch all the wedding guests go through an emotional journey of Kelly and Sasha while watching the two pieces. The combined impact of The Story clip and SDE during their reception is hard to describe.

Although I've been saving all the clips to be launched with the blog, I start feeling like it's taking too long and so I decided to start posting the clips earlier. There are quite a few pieces coming up in the next weeks, so stay tuned.

First one - The Wedding Experience - The Story and SDE of Kelly and Sasha, as shown on their wedding day.

    BTS FOR MY INDUSTRY FRIENDS

    The Story clip

The Story clip was shot in about 5h (4h for interviews and bar + computer scenes - both scenes shot gorilla style; 1h shoot at the park on a different day)

Everything was shot with one 5d mark II and one 7d and all EOS glass.
I interviewed the B&G and friends + mom, keeping an eye on 5d with 135 f2 - main cam, while Mark Klassen was getting wide shots and slider shots on a 7d with a 50 f1.2 and 24 f1.4.

Audio recorded with a sennheiser wireless mic fed into zoom h4n, magically synced in post in less then 10 min, using plural eyes.

All interviews were shot with available light only, around magic hour. Sun was directly behind the interviewees.

The bar scene took about 20 min to shoot at the most. Few quick shots, available light only, one mic on Sasha.

The computer scene, similarly short. Available light only, two retakes. We wanted to emulate a very natural setting of a girl, being on her laptop, therefore making the confession :) about how they really met more real.

The park stuff I shot by myself while having lots of fun with a couple, just a 2 min walk from Kelly's house.

    Tools used:
    5d mark II
    manfrotto 561 bhdv monopod
    canon glass: 24 f1.4 II, 50 f1.2, 135 f2

    SDE

For this wedding there was only was person that I could have asked to help me. Not only being one the best storytellers and shooters out there, being a mentor for many in the industry, being one of my best friends, but also being a friend of Kelly for a long time, Michael Y Wong came in to make this shoot the best it could be.

It was a 2 man shoot, no other help.

Michael shot groom preps while I stayed with the bride.
We joined forces for the ceremony, after which Michael went to shoot a photo-session and I headed to the reception venue to edit SDE. We then shot together at the beginning of the reception (intros and 1st dance). After that it was pure crunch time for me as poor Michael shot all the speeches and games by himself.

    Gear:
two manfrotto monopods, cinevate atlas 30
Michael run steadicam pilot with canon 24-70 f2.8 on a 5d mark II

    My EOS glass used:
    50 f1.2, 24 1.4 II, 135 f2, 70-200 f2.8

    Michael's glass used:
-zeiss 35/2 zf, zeiss 50/2 makro zf, zeiss 21/2.8 zf, canon 70-200 f2.8

    Audio:
    2x sennheiser wireless mics
    zoom h4n
    2 irivers
    tascam DR-07
    EDIROL R-09

    Editing

I cut all of my shots using the EOS Plugin for FCP, while Michael still used the older technique of rough cutting in native h.264 and then converting into ProRes LT.

The second step of editing - putting the story together was all done in ProRes LT.

I colored the clip using only Color Corrector 3-way and Color Fixer Plus from NewBlue Video Essentials.

    Few personal notes:

I really love the idea of letting all the guests know how they really met (something that B&G might have been a little ashamed of before) in such funny way. It was a couple's idea. That definitely got the crowd interested after which the story of their relationship, topped by their proposal story was that much more powerful and emotional to watch.

In the SDE, I managed to show two different mornings of both Kelly and Sasha. On one hand, bride's mom taking her time and preparing coffee and breakfast for Kelly; on the other - groomsmen going an easy route and eating fast food.

I find it super emotional to have bride's mom VO when Kelly is putting on the dress. And right after comes the crescendo which keeps you high until the very end of the clip.

    Please, enjoy.

  5. There are many ways to tell a story, and so much a Hindu wedding symbolizes. It was our hope to explore these themes in a far more dramatic way than we felt possible in a traditional documentary, and tell an engaging true love story filled with far more than meets the eye.

Melissa & Samir's incredible journey to Udaipur fulfilled a lifelong dream of being married in India. This transcendent place, affectionately called the "City of Lakes," would be the setting for their extravagant three-day wedding celebration and the backdrop of an unprecedented Pacific Pictures wedding film production. "City of Lakes" is the first ever live event scripted concept film created on this scale. It combines Melissa & Samir's real live wedding with a scripted production, which aims to tell their true life love story in the most engaging way possible. Enjoy the trailer for "City of Lakes" and be sure to watch the full-length wedding concept video.

Pacific Pictures presents “City of Lakes”
