1. In the second of two making-of featurettes for a serialized blog at Big Head Amusements on filming Marilla Wex's "Lost and Found" at the 2014 Toronto Fringe Festival, I've featured clips from two liveperformances and differing angles.

Each hour-long performance was filmed with a 1986 JVC BY-110U three-tube 1/2" Saticon ENG video camera and recorded to a Sony GV-D1000 miniDV unit, after which the footage was assembled in Final Cut Pro 7. The two clips demonstrate the rather limited angles from behind the audience and to its right. Both extracts feature raw footage without any colour grading or noise reduction outside of the initial ProRes conversion.

This featurette accompanies a lengthy blog and several stills on filming both the Tech Rehearsal and two performances in front of live audiences in July of 2014: bigheadamusements.com/wordpress/?p=1629

  2. In the first of two making-of featurettes for a serialized blog at Big Head Amusements on filming Marilla Wex's "Lost and Found" at the 2014 Toronto Fringe Festival, I've featured an extract from the Tech Rehearsal.

The hour-long set was filmed with a mid-1980s JVC GZ-S5 1/2" Saticon tube camera and recorded to a Canon miniDV camcorder, after which the footage was assembled in Adobe Premiere CS5. The clip demonstrates the camera's weaknesses - optics, tube, filters, and audio - in low light conditions.

    About this videotaped production:

Produced by Big Head Amusements, two performances were shot using a 3-tube Saticon JVC BY-110U ENG video camera, circa 1986.

Title credits were generated with a 1996 Videonics Titlemaker Pro 3000 (Prologue & End Credits Part B) and portions of Kurt Firla's (kurtfirla.com/) poster art and fonts adapted within Adobe Photoshop and Premiere (Main and End Credits Part A).

Certain background plates for the credits were filmed using a Showtime Video Ventures Syncalizer and Showmaker System (colour) Processor for analogue enhancements.

All video elements edited and composited within Final Cut Pro 7. Audio balanced and enhanced within Sony Sound Forge.

For more information on how a contemporary live performance was videotaped and assembled using vintage analogue gear and contemporary digital software, please visit: bigheadamusements.com/wordpress/?p=1619
