  2. On a road trip of the American Southwest in 2014, Austin-based Singer/Songwriter, Pierson Saxon, stopped in for an impromptu performance at the San Miguel Mission in Santa Fe, NM. The small crowd of summer tourists were speechless when, without any announcement, he simply walked in and began to play.

  3. Out one night while visiting in Austin last fall, I asked my host to take me to the baddest, most legit, blues bar in town. We went right to the Continental. While diggin on the exceptional house band, I spotted a slim tall shadow underneath that signature hat in the back corner. I turned to my friend and said,
"Holly shit... is that Gary Clark Jr."
"Yeah man. That's Gary. He shows up every once in a while."
We ended up talking to the man while step'n out on the corner for a smoke. He was warm and kind, and so impressively humble for a musician of his caliber and notoriety.
We thought that would be the highlight of the night until moments later when the drummer with Aretha-esque backup vocals, Dave "Snizz" Robinson, invited "Mr. Gary Clark Jr.!" up on stage for a couple impromptu songs in this awesome local joint for a room packed with only about 30-40 people.
No camera, no prep, just an Iphone, but hey, you use the tools you got when presented with a one of kind moment. The video's about as raw as it gets, but if you stick around till the end, you'll be treated to a great guitar solo, front row.

  4. In 2013, LA-based artist, Doug Aitken, chartered a train, from New York to Oakland, taking his one of a kind installation and performance art show to 9 cities along the way. In between stops, people ate, drank, got to know each other, talked about life and art, and made life and art. This is just one of several impromtu jam-sessions that happened in the train's state of the art, Moog-sponsored, recording car. The players are: Singer/songwriter, Eleanor Friedberger, Tim Koh of Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti, Justin Stanley (the on-board sound tech), and Chris Camp, a trick bull-whipper no one had any idea was also a master harmonica player
