Ice covered street February 17, 2015 - City of Detroit cleared the ice as a three day process.
A house was demolished in the fall and a waste hauling trailer was positioned at the cut-out spot shown in the video. The weight of the debris caused damage to the water lines beneath. The weather was very cold, below 10 degrees F.
There has also been a problem with a wet plot - the water below grade is seeping and the lawn is usually soaking wet. Likely a demolition crew didn't follow shut off procedures to ensure it wouldn't be leaking after the lot was cleared. I've seen more than 8 such plots in the 3 block area - so it is a quallity of work concern that the City of Detroit needs to address. We need transparency as to which demolition company(s) are working on the contract to clear a plot. There should be a warranty to the city should demolition have left the plot in a problem state.

The night of the 16th I came home around 9pm and saw mist rising off the street through the headlights approaching. Streetlights in the area didn't reveal what I saw the following day. Ice built up over the days to about 6 inches deep in the center of the street - both tire tracs remained with water flowing from the ruptured water supply. The flow travelled 3/4 of a block down a slight slope to a drain at the end of the street. On the 2nd day a salt truck dumped a LOT of salt through the street. The following day I was out but upon returning saw mounds on the sides of the road with 2-5 foot ice slabs piled 5-6 feet high.

We need the Open Detroit data to give us detailed information about demolitions (past, current and future). A track record of performance of those demolition companies performing the task can be formed from the data. We need 1) dataset of contracts, 2) dataset of contractors to match with contracts, 3) properties demolished or to be demolished with a contract number. Ideally if there is a district manager assigned linkage to that person as well. These are tools of responsibility and TRANSPARENCY. The people have every right to ask for these to be delivered, and for the historical content as well. The people would like to know how PERFORMANCE MEASURES on these demolitions, not simply a status on how far along sections of demolition are proceeding.

The State of Michigan is surrounded by the largest body of fresh water in the world, over 20% of the world's fresh water is entrusted to our care. Our State is a major contributor to the source waters of the Great Lakes. Our Governor is the chairperson of the Great Lakes Council of Governors. Our Governor has also been instrumental in sacrificing the voice and will of the people, usurping elected positions and placing appointees from the State without the voice of the people heard or respected.

We have become Servants of a State agenda which will never be fully revealed to the public. This is not our government - this is an authoritarian dictate, a fascist state with corporate influence ruling over the people.

The videos in this channel document the endangerment of our water - as drinking water, a natural resource, and a commons all humans need for life.
