"Why We Create Music", commissioned by music organization ASCAP, tells the story of the absolute importance of music with the individuals who create it. Fifteen musicians, ranging from Bill Withers to Aloe Blacc to Lady Antebellum, sit down with the director, Michael Marantz, to discuss their labor of love, songwriting and composing. Each featured artist was asked to contribute a musical or lyrical element to a base song that Marantz composed, ultimately generating the collaborative soundtrack that plays over video footage of them in the process of writing it.

Kids living in a slum built on a landfill in Paraguay create The Recycled Orchestra. Unable to afford traditional instruments they instead create all of their instruments from trash. When their story goes viral they tour the world, finally realizing their wildest dream: to play with the heavy metal band, Megadeth. The film is a testimony to the transformative power of music and the resilience of the human spirit.

  4. This was my first animation made with the Processing language (processing.org). It's a generative art piece created entirely by the computer out of mathematics and code. (Music - Boards of Canada).

My ultimate aim was to have the computer generate spontaneous, random animation, which looked as natural and interesting as any other form of human created art. glennmarshall.wordpress.com/2008/08/07/the-zeno/

The 'Music is Math' code next became the basis of my music video for Peter Gabriel 'The Nest That Sailed The Sky' which won an Award of Distinction at Ars Electronica - vimeo.com/3245120

I then adapted the same code into a range of iPhone and iPad applications Zio, Supernova and Eyegasm - a collection of 'interactive ambient paintings' - looking at the software app as art (and reaching no.1 in iTunes charts in Australia,NZ & Europe)- glennmarshall.wordpress.com/zio/

My most popular animation on the web 'Metamorphosis' is also based on the same code, with over 350,000 plays on vimeo alone - vimeo.com/1747316
