11 year old Maxine blew the doors off the 107th American Casting Association Championships in Long Beach at the beginning of August. She finished tied for 4th among all casters in the official 3 fly accuracy games called Dry Fly, Trout Fly and Bass Bug accuracy. That is ALL casters, male or female, of any age! In the All Fly Accuracy combination she scored 289 points out of a possible 300, surpassing the current Women's National Record, set by a Canadian woman back in the 1990's with a score of 286! The only people to outscore her in the fly accuracy combination were Steve Rajeff, unarguably the best fly caster in the world; Chris Korich, her coach; and Maxine's own dad, Glenn McCormick.
And by the way, that was one of SEVEN National Junior Records she set that week. By placing in the top 5 in fly accuracy, Maxine also became the youngest caster in history to earn a spot on the prestigious All American Team!
I was able to arrange for Maxine to appear on a Saturday morning television news show and take my daughter to meet her. Which was awesome for Rachel who got a casting lesson from Maxine!
Great job by reporter Christien Kafton and photographers Ryan and Rick.
