Planets is an interactive performance by artist Andy Bates and dancer Michael Smith.
The project aims to support connections between people, places and objects through live performances
with interactive objects, named orbs. These performances occur in public spaces, led by Michael, a contemporary dance practitioner.
Members of the public are invited to take an orb and join a performance, where their experience is guided by Michael's movements but entirely open and forged by their individual desire.
The first major presentation of Planets was at the 2014 Ars Electronica Festival in Linz, Austria.
The festival is an international event where hundreds of works at the intersection of art, science and technology are exhibited to large crowds for 5 consecutive days.
A total of three Planets performances took place at the festival and are documented in this video.
