A short film by German born, Dutch based director and choreographer Meli Kuhn, featuring her DansSpelFilmensemble Meli Kuhn.
The difficulties in communication in human relationships are the thematic focus of this film.
Seven characters explore this theme in moments of loneliness and togetherness.
A married couple whose relationship has drifted into speechlessness, a young woman wearing a bridal gown who chases happiness, a couple looking for ways to be “we” while giving “I” enough space.
While the characters strive to communicate or have given up on it, they are at the same time engaged in an inner search.
The necessity to find a home inside themselves drives them either towards each other or into isolated helplessness.
The film’s settings are the ruins of an ancient church reduced to bare walls.
The walls are a metaphor. A wall separates or it encloses. On one hand it points at a barrier between two people. On the other hand it defines the space where an individual has to place itself.
Communication requires us to cross these barriers while paradoxically it seems that at the same time our happiness depends on keeping these barriers intact.
The film is accompanied by a musical score, especially composed by the American, Emmy and Grammy Award winning composer Ali Helnwein. alihelnwein.com/
