Go christall teares!

“I see melancholia as a vitamin that we all need. In all western art there is something of melancholia, otherwise something’s missing.“ LARS VON TRIER

In Lars von Triers’s masterful film “Melancholia” a rogue blue planet is on a collision course with Earth. The end of the world emerges as a metaphor for the melancholia of the main character Justine. The entire film is, according to von Trier, inspired by the German Romanticism, with its fascination for the stars and the night, death wishes and its black melancholia. Just as they do in this film, Wagner and the Romanticism from Schubert to Richard Strauss play important roles in KlaraFestival 2013. Since 2011, the KlaraFestival programme has been examining the significance of the “human condition” from three perspectives: Utopia (2011), spirituality (2012) and melancholia.
