Harlow First Time Live II was intended to provide a catalyst to re-energise instrumental learning and music education in Harlow schools through strands of creative activity at all 5 Secondary schools and 10 feeder Primary schools, engaging with hundreds of young people, teachers and parents.
Composer John K Miles worked with groups of Key Stage 3 students to create a collaborative piece for performance by City of London Sinfonia and the young musicians in two orchestral concerts held at Stewards Academy in February 2015. Some participants were also involved as ‘young producers’, helping to design, manage and present the concerts. Workshops at the Primary schools helped to further spread the experience and inspiration of music-making.
The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Orchestras Live have produced a video from the First Time Live - Youth project in Scunthorpe. It was filmed at The Baths Hall on Friday 8 March 2013 where two concerts took place for local young people, and documents the involvement of the young producers in programming, producing and presenting the concerts themselves.
