My fellow MSP FairSkies Coalition Co-Founders Steve Kittleson and I addressed the MSP Airport's Noise Oversight Committee regarding the group's proposal for "Less Noise, No Surprises" with respect to aircraft noise. We lay out a path to get there, including:
- Aligning around the nature of the problem
- How to use new and existing data to create a fact base for decision making
- Establishing a firm goal for noise reduction (we propose a 50% reduction by 2025)
- Enhanced community representation on the NOC, with the addition of citizen representative to truly bring the "Voice of Citizen" to the decision making process
This is part of a continuing series on the Real Impact of aircraft noise in the US, and was first shown to citizens at the St Louis Park (MN) Noise Forum on June 8th, 2017. In response to audience requests, the Goals and Actions pages were clarified and republished on June 13th. This presentation reflects those updates.
Part 2 of a series on NextGen/RNAV at Minneapolis St Paul airport. This presentation covers the basics of how the FAA measures airport noise, reviews alternate metrics used across the world, and applies those new metrics to Minneapolis and surrounding areas so you can see the real impact of noise from MSP. Presentation and analysis by Kevin Terrell of Katana Consulting.
An overview of the FAA's proposed RNAV departure tracks to the northwest of MSP airport, and the impact of noise on SW Minneapolis and Edina. Presentation and analysis by Kevin Terrell of Katana Consulting.
