  2. The final tutorial in the CG and Video Compositing series. We continue to break apart our render for more advanced compositing. We cover Render Layers - a layer for geometry and a layer for shadows - and Render Passes. We create an EXR files with built in renderpasses for diffuse, indirect, specular, and other components. (maya 2009+ specific)

Revision: In the tutorial I say that you should turn off shadow catching and AO for the mip_matteshadow stand-in object - this is not neccessary. Only turn off primary visibility on the stand-in objects. If you turn off the shadow catching then you wont see those ground shadows in your reflections (something I notice but don't correct in the video).

  3. In this tutorial I demonstrate how to break the render apart for basic compositing. We end up with our cg objects and their shadows seperate from the background video plate. They can be seamlessly recombined later in photoshop or after effects.
