1. The Kakariki is very rare in the wild and a bird I had never seen until we went to see Pat and Shirley, they have to have a permit from DoC to keep them, Pat let me film in his aviary so I could get some good close ups, I used a wide angle converter to give me better depth of field.

    When Europeans first came to New Zealand in the early 19th century there were flocks of the Parakeets but early settles shot them and the introduced Dogs, Cats, Possums, Ferrets, Stoats, Weasels and Hedgehogs saw off most of what was left of the ground nesting birds. with a lot of other species for company.
