The Wasatch Powder Keg is one of the largest ski mountaineering races in the United States. The event features three days of racing, starting with a sprint Friday night, followed on Saturday by the individual race, and finishing Sunday with the longer, more technical teams event. This year, the Powder Keg partnered with the Vertfest Tour. Presented by Outdoor Research, Vertfest is a multi-stop mountain festival that raises money for regional avalanche centers and promotes snow safety education.
The legendary GORE-TEX Grand Traverse is a 40-mile, difficult party. Now in its 17th year, the Elk Mountains Grand Traverse is an endurance backcountry ski race through the remote Elk Range in the heart of the Rockies. The race begins at midnight in Crested Butte, Colorado, and ends 40 miles to the north in the town of Aspen.
Nobody was expecting Brad Weaver to beat a stacked field of America's best professional climbers at the 2014 SCS National Championships. Coming out of a 7th-place finish in the qualifiers round, Brad stunned the crowd with an onsight of the final route.
