over the summer i interned with Tandem Press in Madison, Wisconsin. it was a fantastic experience and i learned so much about professional fine art printmaking... at the very end of my time there i was able to join Bruce Crownover, one of Tandem's master printers, in UW's paper-making studio. it's a beautiful facility and even had a large garage door that was nice to keep open on those warm summer days. we were recycling paper pulp from old prints of finished editions to make new paper for a new edition of a Mickalene Thomas piece. the paper was thick. we laid 3 layers of pulp for each sheet and then used a vacuum table to remove excess water and pull the pulp fibers closer together. what we got was 40 thick sheets of white paper.
