This is just a test to see how the a7s II performs together with the Atomos Shogun. I was looking for banding in the sky, wich is visable and very common when filming in the internal codec using the S-LOG3 profile. When not exposing correctly and you have to bring back some information in post, banding becomes visable even with this combo. Wich you can see 00:32 in this video. (wich looks much worse with the vimeo compression compared to the original file) But it's much better than the internal codec performs for sure! And overall the camera performs really good together with the Atomos Shogun! Everything filmed handheld.
Filmed with Sony a7s II with the Atomos Shogun in Prores HQ, S-log3 (PP8), 4K 25fps. Edited on a 1080p timeline. Lenses used: Sony/Zeiss 55mm 1,8 and Sony/Zeiss 16-35 mm
This is my first shots with the Sony a7s II. All handheld with Zeiss/Sony 55mm 1,8 lens. Mostly 4K shots cropped down on a 1080p timeline, but there is some 1080 100fps shots in here too.
First thoughts: A super nice camera, good in body stabilazation, nice picture quality, the s-log3 works good, but the codec doesn't hold up that well for grading in some cases. Banding is visible in some shots and the black spot issue too, but Sony working on fixing that I've heard, wich is great! Looking forward to try this beast in a real shooting situation and also together with my Atomos Shogun.
