汇(Hui) is the Chinese character for hedgehog. Like the thorny creature’s defensive shield that protects and camouflages it from predators, the Hui garment is comprised of a coat of aggressively reactive sharp spikes intended to symbolically ward off the threatening presence of others.
In default mode, the spikes sway gently in place, creating the sense of a living and breathing organism. However, upon detection of presence within the proximity of the garment, they violently turn to face the approaching subjects, and the LED lights change color from white to red.
Onemile is a project out of OCAD University with the goal of create a social connection revolving around sharing past experiences. The system uses a hood, which records the experiences of the wearer (light, sounds, and step) at random times. These recordings are transmitted to a base station whenever the hood comes into proximity, triggering data visualization of that recording. Previous recording, from other hood wearers, are then transfered back down to the hood at this point, creating a network effect of shared experiences. Downloaded experiences are then played back by the act of wearing the hood, connecting two individuals across time, location and experiences.
