Shot entirely on my iPhone 5S, this is the story of Linda Lou Schwable. Who? Tags: step-mother-in-law, Winnipeg, adoption, NYC, Actors Studio, Hollywood, casting agent, pills, pot, heroin, promiscuity, drunk, addict, AA, Countess, Alzheimers, rich, fcckn crazy, survivor.
Linda Lou is my "step-mother-in-law". Sounds awkward but true. Through a series of weird circumstances, Linda decided she wanted to play herself in the film of her life. She commissioned me to do it.
Nothing could have pleased me more. Why? Because she is a remarkable, creative, eccentric, stubborn, unconventional woman, who by all rights, should have checked out a time long ago. She is also a recovering drug addict and alcoholic. Just like me. We are kindred spirits. We are survivors.
The film is based on interviews with Linda at her Cape Cod and Florida homes. Each interview was on a specific topic. It was hard slog for me. At the time, I was on chemotherapy and Linda was suffering from a number of ailments. Maintaining focus was a herculean task. For both of us.
The real challenge was how to tell this woman's remarkable story without a narrator or script. I was determined to let Linda tell her story. On her terms. And believe me, there were terms. This is a very unconventional and untraditional woman. Her life is woven with tragedy and triumph. In the end, Linda left nothing on the table. She gave it to me, warts and all. She insisted that I not sugarcoat any of it. This is her story. No, come to think of it, this is her life in a movie. And as usual, she is the star.
