These snippets of video come from two encounters (last week and today) with what I think must be the same hognose snake. The second time I saw the snake, I used the shovel to gently move it out of the yard (where our two curious dogs run and play).
As you can see, this non-venomous snake flattens out his (?) neck to resemble a cobra. He was also hissing loudly (but the camera mic didn't capture it due to too much background noise). He never played dead, but that is another trick this type of snake is known to play when it feels threatened.
This little video was shot at Powder Mountain, a ski area in northern Utah. Pow mow flies below the radar as far as utah resorts are concerned, which is fine by me! This place is all about getting your pow turn on with your buddies, all day.
Shot on a 5DmkII, handheld, with a 15mm fisheye. Tried to capture the feeling of shredding a resort on a typical utah pow day.
