Ad Mortem

This 3-minute demo reel will give you a taste and feel of AD MORTEM, an original theatre piece about death, life, time, and love.

Created at the Art Monastery Project (artmonastery.org) by the 2012 summer Artmonks-in-Residence, the show's conception began with the question, "How do I live when I know that I'm going to die?" From this sincere, urgent, and hopeful query grows a 70-minute theatrical journey that mixes contemporary dance, shadow play, and a full-length original score (including the innovative new technology of live looping). Drawing inspiration from Roman mythology and famous Italian poems, Ad Mortem gives life to an original world of complex thought and profound emotion that resonates with audiences of diverse ages and cultures.

Ad Mortem premiered at Calici Sotto Le Stelle, with additional performances at the La MaMa Spoleto Open Fringe festival, in summer 2012. Each performance was designed to be site-specific and unique for each location.

AD MORTEM is a 70-minute devised theater piece created by the Artmonks-in-Residence during a 90-day development period in the summer of 2012 at Art Monastery Italia. The piece explores the question: "How do I live when I know I'm going to die?" and draws on personal and cultural reflections about death, life, love, and time. The original score utilizes digital loop technology and text from the ensemble in both Italian and English.

The piece premiered in August 2012 at Calici Sotto le Stelle, a wine/dinner festival in Labro, Italy, and went on to show at the La MaMa Spoleto Open Fringe Festival.
