  2. Marine Lt. Andrew Kinard (retired) was injured due to an IED in Iraq in 2006, losing both legs above the knee. Now, with a scholarship from Able Flight, he is a licensed pilot. Andrew was named as the first recipient of the AOPA/Able Flight Scholarship.

  3. Scot Abrams did a tour in the Marine Corps before following the footsteps of his father, twin brother and cousins by becoming a New York City police officer. While on duty, his motorcycle struck a bus head-on and he was critically injured, barely surviving. After years of recovery and rehab, Scot was awarded an Able Flight Scholarship, and in July of 2015, he became a licensed pilot.
