At the REAL School in Falmouth, Maine, education has taken a very different path from a standard public high school. Every day, the most at-risk youth in southern Maine roll in, and the staff make it their sole purpose to find a way to engage and involve a group of kids for whom no other method of schooling has yet worked.
This year, thanks to an AmeriCorps grant, the REAL School has been able to implement fully-fledged service-learning. What is service-learning, you ask? So did the kids! So, for one of their first projects, they decided to educate the community on what service-learning is, the projects they have done this year, and why it works for them!
So, for your enjoyment, here is the film that a group of REAL School students made to educate and entertain you, the public, about what we do, and, more importantly, why we do it.
