"Adeela" is a short film that is currently in pre-production.

Adeela is a Muslim-American woman who grew up influenced by two very different cultures. When she moves to a small suburban town, she catches the eye of a councilman’s son, Aaron. Together, the couple pushes for Adeela to sing the national anthem at the town’s 4th of July festival and prove to the town that although she is Muslim, she is just as American as they are.

The film was inspired by actual events that occurred in Yorba Linda in 2011. Hundreds of people showed up to protest a dinner event organized by a Muslim American group. The Muslim American group was raising money for women’s shelter and homeless relief, and in return they were greeted by the protestors with hateful chants and vulgar slurs.

The goal of "Adeela" is to bring awareness to the unmerited racism that surrounds Islamic and Arab Americans. This film is a call for change. We need to make this country more habitable for all of it's citizens, and deliver on the promise of which this country was founded on, that all men are created equal, a statement in which no exception should be made.
