Dub Inc. has been the band symbolizing the best the Reggae Made in France Renewal of last decade. Indeed, the late 90s and early 2000 seemed to announce the decline of some emblematic bands, when one voice, rather two voices, those of Bouchkour and Komlan, and a band, Dub Inc., brought a whiff of fresh air on French reggae scene.

The key to success is a bunch of inspired buddies who can write well-chosen lyrics carried by moving tunes and the two singers’wonderfully harmonized voices: Bouchkour first, with his style mixing Oriental and Reggae, has all the good qualities of a Roots Reggae man, and Komlan second instils Ragga Dancehall force and energy. The band has also built on strong musical foundations thanks to Gregory “Zigo” Mavridokaris (drums), Jérémie Grégeois (Guitar), Frédéric Peyron (keyboard), Moritz Von Korff (bass) et Idir Derdiche (keyboard), Benjamin Jouve (sound engineer)… The result is an explosive mix that will rapidly make tongues wag.

As it often happens, the band comes out on stage. The combo is native of Saint-Etienne (France). They propose ravishing performances that enable them to exist and last, whereas general media ignore them (as they aren’t prepared at all for such a phenomenon). Dub Inc. have conquered fans far beyond their local audience: in France of course, but also in Europe (Portugal, Spain, Poland, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Greece, Switzerland, etc.) where some of their performances were epoch-making.

After they presented “”Diversité” in 2003 and made themselves known with “Dans le décor” in 2005, they confirmed in 2008 that they got top billing of French reggae and even more with “Afrikya”, voted best album of French Reggae on the Web Reggae Awards 2008. Mixing reggae and worldmusic, the band have both conquered a new audience and satisfied its first fans. After a two-year absence, their fans waited for the chance to trip Dub Inc. up with their new productions.

And the band’s fourth opus will certainly have an unanimous support! With “Hors contrôle” indeed, they achieved a subtle mix of the influences that made them reach the top of the bill. They take up committed texts on dancing rhythms like “Dos à dos”. They propose terrific Roots Reggae pieces in which Bouchkour’s vocal boost gives you a thrill (“Laisse le temps”). They invite Tarrus Riley, the New Roots artist of the moment. Dub Inc. are always in the spirit of rebellion of a whole generation with “Tout ce qu’ils veulent”. The scene energy of the band is still there (with its shaky “Get mad”) and they should ravish their audience that will come and applause them on their new 2010-2011 tour (among others two shows next November at La Cigale in Paris).
The Dub Inc. phenomenon is definitely not bound to stop soon!
