I was invited to present an evening of work by Agua Dulce Dance Theater at the Museo y Centro de Estudios Humanísticos as the closing event of the symposium "El Caribe y su diversidad / The Caribbean and its Diversity."

"changing course: the body as vessel" was originally commissioned by The Joel and Lila Harnett Museum of Art at The University of Richmond (2016) to be presented during the exhibition "Rodin, The Human Experience: Selections from the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Collections" The piece was conceived in conversation with Rodin's "The Gates of Hell" and performed within the gallery exhibiting his work. The piece was developed through a series of improvisations and although the sequence and movement material became set, each performance remains open to improvisational choices regarding timing, movement qualities, and responsiveness to the present moment.

Matthew Thornton and I adapted the work as a site-specific piece at the Museo y Centro de Estudios Humanísticos at the Universidad del Turabo, Puerto Rico. This choice was inspired in part by Rodin’s practice of working and reworking his sculptures in different contexts. We performed in front of a tree located at the entrance of the museum. Inside a ring of yellow oak flowers, under the mango tree, birds gather at dusk as we move to their song. We would like to slow down further, and listen for the hum of the earth. Return like seeds among roots worm and soil. Spirituality, sensuality, the earth, falling...
